Ed Begley, Jr.
Actor/Environmental Activist
Turning up at Hollywood events on his bicycle, Ed has been considered an environmental leader in the Hollywood community for many years. He has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He still serves on those boards, as well as the Thoreau Institute, the Earth Communications Office, Tree People and Friends of the Earth, among many others.His work in the environmental community has earned him a number of awards from some of the most prestigious environmental groups in the nation, including the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Coalition for Clean Air, Heal the Bay and the Santa Monica Baykeeper. |

Ted Danson
Actor/Environmental Activist
Ted Danson is a longtime environmental advocate. Ted’s interest in environmentalism continued over the years, and he began to be concerned with the state of the world’s oceans. In the 1980s, he was a contributing founder of the American Oceans Campaigns, now referred to as Oceana, and he is still a board member. Ted Danson co-founded the American Oceans Campaign in 1987. The campaign merged with Oceana in 2002. |

Daryl Hannah
Actress/Environmental Activist
Daryl’s passion for environmental causes is reflected in both her fierce activism and day-to-day lifestyle. On June 13, 2006, Hannah was arrested for tying herself to a Walnut Tree at the South Central Farm in south-central Los Angeles. She had been protesting the eviction of the farmers from the site, which was established to allow city dwellers to grow their own food in the aftermath of the 1992 L.A. riots. Daryl has also been a vegetarian since age eleven, uses solar power, and drives a 1983 El Camino car which runs on vegetable oil.
Daryl has recently started a video blog, dhlovelife.com, which features a collection of short videos that capture people around the world helping each other and the environment. |

Bill Nye
Actor/Environmental Activist
Bill Nye is best known as the host of the children’s science show “Bill Nye the Science Guy” (1993–1997) and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.
Since 2006, Nye has lived in Los Angeles in a 1930s stucco home with ecologically-friendly modifications. As of July 2007, Nye and environmental activist Ed Begley, Jr. are engaging in a friendly competition “to see who could have the lowest carbon footprint,” according to Begley. In a 2008 interview, Nye joked that he wants to “crush Ed Begley” in their environmental competition. But Nye and Begley are neighbors in Los Angeles, and sometimes dine together at a local vegetarian restaurant. |
